Course Overview

Children’s Cookery Class – How to cook goujons with home made mayonnaise & chocolate eclairs

Following the success of our first children’s cookery course, which taught children how to cook pizza from scratch, how to make garlic bread and also sweet Swiss meringues, Exeter Cookery School is proud to have launched its second half day children’s cooking classes for children from the ages of 12 to 14.

For this course we will be taking children through the process of how to make the following:

  • Home-made chicken goujons using the freshest of ingredients (vegetarian option available), including free range chicken from Pipers Farm.
  • Chocolate éclairs with choux pastry and whipped cream filling.

As well as providing an excellent introduction to cooking, this half day children’s cookery class offers a host of tips and tricks to help develop their budding culinary skills.

Cooking from scratch

After a preliminary talk on health and safety, the children will learn how to master some basic food preparation and cooking skills, including knife skills, making a basic sauce (home-made mayonnaise is in a different league to shop bought versions), making choux pastry and baking.

Cookery Class Sizes

We like to offer a completely hands-on cookery experience, and for that reason we keep our cookery class sizes small (no more than 12 per session). We do not require parents to stay for the duration of the session, but if you have any concerns, please do talk to us prior to booking.

Children’s Cookery Course Tutor

Our children’s cooking classes are led by the supremely capable Rachel Pinnock. Having studied and worked at the renowned Leiths School of Food and Wine, Rachel is now undertaking a Phd in Food Anthropology at the University of Exeter alongside working for SugarSmart – a campaign to promote public awareness for reducing the levels of sugar people consume – as well as tutoring at Exeter Cookery School.

Rachel is also an experienced guide instructor and is a keen dragon boater.
