Course Overview

Raise a Toast to Cooking With Cider

Cooking with cider is a Devon tradition as old as its orchards. In January, Exeter Cookery School will celebrate the ancient cider-based custom of wassailing, with a course of techniques and recipes based on the county’s customary tipple. This is a full-day cookery course, which will include a guide to making, selecting, enjoying and using cider.

For this super seasonal cookery class with a difference, Exeter Cookery School is delighted to be teaming up with Cider.Space, a new website and food experience provider that celebrates all aspects of cider from orchard planting to food-pairing.

Devon’s Cider Tradition

Cider is as versatile an ingredient as wine, and what better place to celebrate an old cider tradition by learning new ways to cook with a wonderful drink grown and made in Devon.

There are craft cider-makers throughout Devon, which Cider.Space founder Francis Pearce will talk about during the course, but Exeter is at the centre of a cluster of especially good cider-makers and orchards, and so we believe exploring and expanding our cooking heritage is as important to cider’s revival as planting new orchards.

About Cider.Space

Cider.Space was set up in 2017 by Francis Pearce, a Devon-born journalist and author with an enthusiasm for craft cider-making and a strong desire to see the revival of the orchard. He was brought up in a pub and ran a restaurant before writing for daily papers, making radio programmes and freelancing for publications such as Food and Travel. His aim is to build the appreciation of all things cider from apple-growing to gastronomy by developing a range of experiences and events with experts in their field (or kitchen).
